What is a Savings Certificate?

A savings certificate is a credit union certificate account. You deposit a fixed amount for a fixed term and earn a fixed dividend rate that cannot drop while the term runs, in exchange for leaving the money untouched until maturity. iTHINK Financial offers four types: Certificate Accounts open with a minimum $1,000 in terms from 3 to 84 months. IRA Certificates open with a minimum $1,000 in Roth, Traditional, and Educational types, in terms from 9 to 84 months. Special Certificate Accounts open with a minimum $25,000 and pay a higher rate on most terms. HSA Certificates open with a minimum $500 in a 6-month term. Membership is required, and you can open a membership when opening the certificate.

Certificate Rates Effective September 1, 2026

The highest APY currently offered by iTHINK Financial is 3.75% APY on the 10-Month Certificate Account and 10-Month IRA Certificate. The next-highest APY is 3.55% APY, available on the 19-Month and 21-Month Certificate Accounts and the 19-Month IRA Certificate.

For comparison, the FDIC national averages as of July 20, 2026, were 1.68% APY for a 12-month CD, 1.34% APY for a 36-month CD, and 1.36% APY for a 60-month CD. iTHINK Financial offers 2.20% APY, 2.85% APY, and 3.10% APY, respectively, for those same terms.

Certificate Accounts and IRA Certificates require a minimum opening deposit of $1,000. Special Certificate Accounts require $25,000, and HSA Certificates require $500. Rates are fixed for the full certificate term.

How to Open a New Certificate in the Digital Banking App

  1. Log in to our Digital Banking App.
  2. Once you log in, you will be on the Accounts screen. Scroll to the bottom of the screen and select Open New Account.
  3. On the Select Membership screen, choose your individual membership.
  4. Browse the available account options and select the Certificate you would like to open.
  5. Select Continue.
  6. Review and agree to the Terms and Conditions.
  7. Follow the remaining prompts to fund your Certificate and complete the account-opening process.

What happens when my Certificate Account matures?

At maturity, you may renew your Certificate Account, choose a different term or withdraw your funds, subject to the terms of your account. If no instructions are provided, your Certificate Account may renew automatically. Review your maturity notice or contact iTHINK Financial for details about your options.

Are iTHINK Financial Certificate Accounts federally insured?

Yes. Funds in iTHINK Financial Certificate Accounts are federally insured by the National Credit Union Administration, a federal agency. IRA Certificate Accounts may have additional tax considerations. For information about your account, contact iTHINK Financial or consult a qualified tax advisor.
