Helpful Hints When Traveling

By: iTHINK Financial | Jan 15, 2016

Traveling overseas?

Using your iTHINK Financial Visa Debit or Credit card could save you money. Visa’s daily exchange rate in many cases is better than you’ll find in the currency exchange locations here and overseas.

Don’t be fooled by the “ Fees” advertisements for currency exchange. In many cases the ‘Fee’ is buried in the lower exchange you’ll be getting for your US currency. We encourage you to do your homework by using  Visa's Currency Converter  where you can compare the exchange rate you’ll be receiving from Visa. On each transaction conducted crossing any international borders, iTHINK Financial charges a low 2% on the US Dollar as an International Service Assessment Fee.

Reducing ATM fees and risk

Try to plan your withdrawals based on your anticipated spending so that you’re not incurring more ATM surcharge fees than necessary. Also be sure to use ATMs in secure, well-lit areas. Look for the larger local banks. If the ATM looks like it possibly has been tampered with, don’t use it. Protect your PIN. Don’t count your cash at the ATM. All airports will have ATMs; however, the surcharge will be higher, so if possible, wait until you leave the airport to get cash.
